This is the 20th anniversary issue of San Antonio Magazine. That is a remarkable achievement for a printed city magazine in today’s media landscape. The magazine’s staying power speaks to the importance of a publication that reflects the life and lifestyles of San Antonio’s population.
San Antonio Magazine has switched between publishing monthly to bimonthly several times in its two decades. Throughout that time, the magazine has always shared stories of the people, places, history and looked forward to the future of this city. That is reflected in the remembrances from each of the five editors of San Antonio Magazine within these pages.
In this milestone issue, we revisit both nostalgia and what’s new.
The History feature traces the beginning of the holiday lights on the River Walk in 1975, and in City News, we look forward to the inaugural San Antonio Marathon in December.
In Imbibe, a cozy Western look designed by Kim Wolfe paired with Chef Leo Davila’s flavorful bites at Anacacho breathe fresh energy in the historic St. Anthony hotel, a holiday must-visit.
The holidays are a time to slow down, to gather with family and friends, and to give thanks and celebrate the season.
As you spend time with loved ones, you’ll want to add a mad game of Mahjong to the mix. Read about local groups who’ve been playing for years and where you can go to get in on the action.
Check out the new Wildcraft General neighborhood apothecary in Dignowity Hill, where customers are invited to gather, share space, and sit and have a cup of tea or coffee while they shop for unique gifts.
Feast your eyes on the high-flying luxury jet interiors designed by University of the Incarnate Word graduate Natalie Rodriguez. She recently was featured in the “Women Rock Wings” Own the Climb campaign that celebrates Hispanic leaders who are shaping the industry, and you can read about her in Mi Casa.
Lastly, anyone who has inherited their family’s china and sets the holiday table with precious heirlooms will enjoy the heart-warming story about Danny Parada, director of restaurants for the Pullman Market, who showcases his grandmother’s collection every day at Isidore.
Thank you for reading San Antonio Magazine and supporting local journalism. On behalf of our entire team, I wish you a safe and happy holiday.
