A new movie based on the life of Houston businessman Jim McIngvale — better known as “Mattress Mack” — is set to begin filming this month in Texas, according to Deadline.

The film, starring Billy Magnussen as McIngvale, will depict his life in the 1980s to 2000s as he opened his Gallery Furniture store as well as his community service during that time.

Magnussen is known for his roles in “Game Night,” “The Many Saints of Newark,” and, most recently, the live-action remake of “Lilo & Stitch.” He is set to star in the movie about McIngvale alongside Dianna Agron, Darby Lee-Stack and Rob Corddry.

“Jim McIngvale’s story is one of resilience, heart and community,” Magnussen said in a statement to Deadline. “I’m honored to help bring his incredible journey to the screen and to collaborate with such passionate storytellers in capturing the spirit of ‘Mattress Mack’ and the city of Houston.”

McIngvale did not immediately respond to a request for comment made through his furniture store.

Deadline’s description of the film indicates it will focus on his business and philanthropy, including opening Gallery Furniture to shelter people during natural disasters. No mention is made of McIngvale’s right-leaning politics or his high-stakes sports betting that often is tied to sales promotions.

He supported Republican Alexandra del Moral Mealer in her unsuccessful run for Harris County judge in 2022, subsequently suing the county elections office over access to Election Day records. McIngvale is now supporting Republican Marty Lancton, the leader of Houston’s firefighters union, in his run for county judge in 2026.

“Everyone in Houston knows Mack,” the film’s writer-director Shane Andries said in a statement, according to Deadline. “But few know the quiet moments, the private battles, the human being behind the slogans and the Texas grit.”

Production is set to begin this month, and Deadline did not report any potential release date. The film is in production with HappyBad Bungalow, Roosevelt Film Lab and Phiphen.
