Participants in Metro’s Mobility Wallet program will now be able to receive discount rides with the driver-less Waymo ride-hailing service, the company announced Wednesday.
According to Waymo, Mobility Wallet patrons will receive 20% off two Waymo rides in the L.A. service area.
The Mobility Wallet program provides pre-paid debit cards to low-income residents to pay for transportation services such as buses, trains, ride-hailing services, bike-sharing or other transit options. The second phase of the program includes 2,000 people who receive up to $1,800 over 12 months.
According to Metro, the first phase of the Mobility Wallet program included 1,000 low-income South Los Angeles residents, 40% of whom were in households without a vehicle, and half of whom did not have a driver’s license.
