The Detroit Tigers have a solidified ace in Tarik Skubal. He is coming off two incredible seasons where he won the Cy Young Award back-to-back.

He has joined an elite group of pitchers who have won the award two times, like Blake Snell, Jacob deGrom, Tim Lincecum, and many more. One more and he can join the list of pitchers who have won three, like Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw, Pedro Martinez, Jim Palmer, Tom Seaver, and Sandy Koufax.

However, while Skubal is Detroit’s ace, there is no telling how long he will be. The hard-throwing lefty is in the final year of his contract, and while the club would love to get an extension done, a trade has not been thrown off the table.

Tarik Skubal would be an ace on nearly every other team in the league. So, his name has been a headliner when talking about potential offseason trades.

He has been linked to multiple teams that are looking to bolster their starting rotation in 2026, like the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, or Baltimore Orioles, just to name a few.

That is nearly a list of contenders, but Skubal’s heart is in Detroit. He recently joined the crew at Foul Territory to discuss his thoughts on the trade rumors.

“It’s not like I want to be traded. So, it’s like, ‘Hey, why am I in this? Why am I in these conversations to begin with?’ But, at the end of the day, it doesn’t really impact anything that I’m going to do day-to-day.”

Skubal has no thoughts on playing somewhere else next season, but understands this is a business. Despite the rumors, it will not deter him from putting in his work over the offseason and being ready to dominate opposing batters.
