WASHINGTON (7News) — The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree has arrived in Washington, D.C. Friday morning after a 3,000-mile journey from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nevada.

The red fir named Silver Belle was delivered by Swift Transportation driver Michael Porter, will reach the Capitol following a nearly three-week trip with more than ten stops across the country.

Porter, who is based in Phoenix, Ariz., has spent weeks escorting the tree so communities across the nation could see it up close and celebrate its sendoff.

This year marks the 61st anniversary of the tradition — Each year, the USDA Forest Service selects a tree from one of the nation’s 154 national forests for display on the West Lawn of the Capitol.
