Former Washington Capitals goaltender Darcy Kuemper appeared a bit salty after the Los Angeles Kings lost to the Boston Bruins 2-1 in overtime on Friday night.
Morgan Geekie scored 2:27 into overtime, taking a pass from David Pastrnak and beating Kuemper with a wrist shot to the far side of the net.
As Pastrnak raised his arms to the air in celebration, Kuemper did not seem to appreciate how close he got to him as he skated off, throwing his right leg out in a kicking motion to try and trip the Czech winger.
The loss marked the Kings’ third consecutive defeat, and Kuemper’s record fell to 7-4-4 on the season. The 35-year-old backstop stopped 24 of 26 shots in the game, surrendering both goals to Geekie.
Kuemper, who was a Vezina Trophy finalist last season, has been sensational early in the 2025-26 campaign despite seeing his save percentage drop from .922 to .906. According to MoneyPuck, he has saved the sixth most goals above expected (10.5) in the NHL this season, trailing only Spencer Knight (14.2), Logan Thompson (13.5), Jeremy Swayman (12.8), Connor Hellebuyck (12.5), and Ilya Sorokin (12.0).
