Police are on the lookout for a white Honda which was stolen from Carbonear and has heavy damage to the front end.
The RNC were closing in on the driver at about 3:30 this morning as he was gassing up at the Irving on Kenmount Road but he jumped in and fled, crashing into a taxi and two RNC vehicles.
Police are familiar with the man as he has a history of dangerous driving offences, so they abandoned the chase.
Anyone who sees the Honda license plate HXZ 084 is asked to contact police.
