SYLVA, N.C. (WLOS) — A Sylva man has been arrested after setting a woman on fire during a domestic violence incident.
According to a Facebook post on the Sylva Police Department page, officers were dispatched to a domestic dispute at 587 Chipper Curve Road on Friday, Nov. 21, at 7:18 a.m.

After responding, officers began an investigation in which they learned that Patrick Tyson and a woman had a verbal altercation in which, according to the woman, Tyson stated that if she did not get him a beer, he would set her on fire.
According to the post, officers learned that Tyson had grabbed a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and poured it on the floor, then on the couch the woman was sitting on, and then set the alcohol on fire.
The victim’s shirt was burned off her body; however, she did not sustain any physical injuries.
The house suffered some smoke damage, burned carpet, and a charred couch from the fire. The stove was also shattered after Tyson threw an item at it during the incident.
The post says the Sylva Fire Department responded to the incident and quickly extinguished the flames.
MAN CHARGED WITH ARSON, ACCUSED OF SETTING FIRE TO HIS MOBILE HOME
Tyson was arrested and charged with the following, according to the post:
- Felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
- Felony first-degree arson
- Misdemeanor assault on a female
- Misdemeanor injury to personal property
Tyson was taken before a magistrate and then lodged in the Jackson County Jail under a $750,000 secured bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 1 in District Court.
