“American Airlines flight 2118 landed safely and taxied to the gate under its own power at Houston (IAH) following reports of an odor on board,” a spokesperson said in a statement on Monday. “The flight continued on a replacement aircraft. We thank our team members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for their experience.”

The source of the odor was not identified by the American Airlines spokesperson. When the plane was diverted to Houston, emergency medical personnel met the plane at its gate, in compliance with protocol, according to the airline spokesperson.

The Houston Airport System, which manages Bush Intercontinental Airport as well as Hobby Airport, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
