The suspect and one other person died in the shooting outside the Hyde & Seek Lounge in Downtown Dallas Monday, officials say

DALLAS — Dallas police Wednesday released body camera video and new details about a deadly shooting earlier this week outside the Hyde & Seek Lounge in Downtown Dallas

Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said in a Nov. 26 press conference that both on-duty and off-duty officers assigned to provide security detail at the lounge were at the scene in the 2000 block of Commerce Street around 2 a.m. Nov. 24 following a disturbance, police say.

Comeaux said at one point, a man, identified as Kedric McDonald, 31, allegedly pointed a handgun and fired multiple rounds into a vehicle where a 27-year-old Zemeid Cox was seated.

McDonald allegedly then fired more rounds that hit three other people standing nearby before he ran toward officers with the gun pointed toward them, Comeaux said. Surveillance video released by police showed people at the scene taking cover and running.

“Officers gave him repeated verbal commands for the suspect to drop the weapon. He did not comply,” Comeaux said.

Two officers then shot their weapons and hit McDonald, Comeaux said.

In body-worn camera footage, shots can be heard before shouts of “put the gun down!” and “drop the gun!”, then “get an ambulance!” as an officer appears to be checking on someone on the ground.

Cox was found unresponsive in the vehicle and officers performed life-saving measures on McDonald and Cox until Dallas Fire-Rescue arrived, but both died at the scene, Comeaux said.

The other three people were taken to local hospitals with “non-life threatening” injuries, Comeaux said, and no officers were injured.

Three firearms were recovered from the scene, Comeaux said.

Comeaux said the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office will conduct an independent investigation into the shooting. He said the incident marks the department’s seventh officer-involved shooting this year.

The shooting led to road closures in the area on Monday and the closure of the Dallas Municipal Court Building for that day,
