Recent Park Board filings show the budget for the project rose significantly.
DALLAS — A project to expand Dallas’ Klyde Warren Park by 1.7 acres to the west could break ground next year.
The expansion will cover the last recessed part of Woodall Rodgers Freeway, and the project also includes a 24,000-square-foot building with reception and event space and an 8,000-square-foot roof terrace, according to the park’s website. Recent Dallas Park Board filings show the estimated construction budget for the project increased from $65,383,008 to $121,488,529 because of an increase in the Texas Department of Transportation construction cost estimates.
The filings, previously reported by our content partners at the Dallas Business Journal, show the estimated federal portion of the costs rose $26,452,029 from $36,800,000 to $63,252,029, and the local portion rose $38,396,500 from $19,840,000 to $58,236,500.
A spokesperson for Klyde Warren Park said the Dallas Park Board and Dallas City Council are expected to take up funding amendments for the project in December. The spokesperson said bidding for the project is expected to open in early summer 2026, and groundbreaking for the deck construction is set for late 2026.
Klyde Warren Park, touted as Dallas’ first deck park, opened in 2012 and has been credited with stitching together neighborhoods previously separated by Woodall Rodgers Freeway. The park now welcomes more than 1.5 million visitors each year, according to the website, and has garnered widespread acclaim.
