On Thanksgiving night, dozens of firefighters were dispatched to tackle a two-alarm fire at a shopping center off Overton Road in southern Dallas.

Jason Evans, the fire department’s spokesperson, said units were responding to a 911 call and left for the Oprah Beauty Supply store at 11:58 p.m. Thursday night. They worked for over an hour to bring the scene under control.

Evans said no one had been injured.

Adeeb Hejaz, a worker at a grocery store that also fell prey to the blaze, said it took nearly four hours for the fire to completely subside. On Friday, Hejaz stood outside the beauty supply store letting customers know the store was closed.

Soot covered the glass. The roof had caved in the back of the building, and a whiff of charred wood permeated the air.

The source of the fire is under investigation. The owner of Oprah Beauty Supply declined to speak with The Dallas Morning News.

“We messed up about it because this is our store,” said Tonya Pratt, a frequent customer. She heard from her sister that there had been a fire. She had been outside Friday since 11 a.m.

At the shopping center, residents make pit stops to get small hauls of groceries, visit the laundromat laundry or buy hair products from the Oprah Beauty Supply store. Pratt said she was here Thursday, participating in a Turkey giveaway.

“We up here every day, sitting, talking,” she said.
