Philadelphia police are continuing their investigation into the death of 50-year-old Amadou Thiam, who was discovered with life-threatening injuries after officers responded to a reported burglary on the 2400 block of Federal Street. The call came in just before 7 p.m. on Monday, November 10, prompting officers to enter the property where Thiam was found unresponsive, unclothed, and suffering from severe head injuries in the rear section of the home. Emergency personnel transported him to Penn-Presbyterian Hospital, where he remained in critical condition until he died on the morning of Wednesday, November 12.
Thiam was known in the area due to his work as a flight attendant and his regular travel schedule. Neighbors told reporters that he was social and frequently seen moving in and out of the residence. They said he had lived at the location for about six years and that the discovery of his injuries created significant distress on the block. A neighbor described the situation as unexpected, and several nearby residents said they continued to feel deeply unsettled after receiving news of his death.
Information from the Association of Professional Flight Attendants states that Thiam began his flying career in 2011. The union described him as professional, with a warm smile and kindness recognized by coworkers throughout his time in the aviation industry. Prior to his burial last week, his family created a GoFundMe page, where they posted photographs of him and shared details about his life.
Due to the circumstances of the incident, homicide detectives assumed control of the investigation. As part of their efforts to gather additional information, investigators released surveillance images identifying two males as persons of interest connected to the burglary report and the events surrounding Thiam’s injuries.
Police provided precise descriptions of the individuals. According to the department, the first male has a thin build and was seen wearing a black jacket over a red Puma hoodie, jeans, and black sneakers with white soles. He was also carrying a black shoulder bag with a red stripe. The second male has a medium build, is bald, has a neatly trimmed beard, and was last seen wearing a gray coat and black pants. These descriptions were released to the public alongside the surveillance images on Wednesday afternoon.
Police have not determined a motive, and the available information does not establish the connection between the reported burglary and the severe injuries that led to Thiam’s death. Investigators continue to review evidence to determine what occurred between the initial emergency call and the moment officers discovered Thiam behind the property.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to contact 215-686-TIPS (8477). Anonymous submissions can also be provided through the police tip portal.
