Melania Trump avoided creating a backlash with her fans as she opted for a demure outfit for the White House’s Fourth of July Picnic.
The First Lady kept things simple in a classic white Thom Browne shirtdress while attending the Independence Day celebration accompanied by her husband, President Donald Trump. The pair co-hosted the event, which is held annually on the South Lawn, as they welcomed military families to celebrate America’s 249th birthday.
The distinctive dress had an A-line shape with a grosgrain tab at the waist that featured Thom Browne’s red, white, and blue stripes. She added red snake-embossed Manolo Blahnik court shoes to complete her look.

The demure look came after Ivanka Trump sparked a backlash when she wore a couture dress to Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s luxurious Italian rehearsal wedding dinner that cost an eye-watering sum.

Ivanka, U.S. President Donald Trump’s eldest daughter, was among several dozen to attend the star-studded wedding ceremony in Venice last weekend. Several picturesque photographs shared on her social media show the socialite in a short floral sequined dress with a thigh-high slit for the wedding rehearsal dinner.
The dress was made by luxury designer Oscar de la Renta, dubbed the Cherry Blossom Sequin Dress, which sells for $9,990 and is currently sold out online.
The dress was originally part of the luxury designer’s wedding collection, fitting for the knot-tying event for the Amazon mogul and his wife. The cost of the dress is notably more than the average American makes in a month, which Fidelity says is roughly $5,174 based on U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
Ivanka shared a photo dump on her Instagram, including photos of her in the stunning dress alongside her husband Jared Kushner, a fellow real estate mogul like her father.
“Ready to celebrate the love story of our friends, @laurenwsanchez and @jeffbezos,” she wrote, alongside photographs of her on a rooftop overlooking Venice.
The post solicited thousands of likes and dozens of replies, including from Republican Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “Wow! in love with this look,” one user commented. “Ivanka definitely looked the most beautifully dressed out of all these ladies. Very elegant and classy,” another added.

However, several angry users also highlighted the wealth gap on display particularly as her father moved to push a bill through Congress, which was re-approved in the House on Thursday, July 3, that will shortly be signed into law, that will force millions off of Medicaid and food stamp programs like SNAP while extending tax cuts for the rich.
“Wow how nice! While her husband has billions of dollars, people in a certain area of the world are dying so that her husband can invest in real estate right there! Old Rome showing again!”, one furious user wrote.
“You look like you know your family is causing millions of children to go without food,” another added, seemingly referring to the domestic policy bill.
Many also criticized her for supporting Bezos given the allegations of horrific workplace conditions from workers against his company.
“So sad that he makes billions and under pays his Amazon employees. But your family does care about that,” another noted.
She was also pictured in a red halter dress from House of CB and a cream-colored cropped-top set by La DoubleJ during her Italian summer vacation.
