Focus Features has unveiled the first teaser for Obsession, the buzzy horror film from Curry Barker that they swooped on at TIFF in a deal our sources placed at $15M+, additionally announcing that Jason Blum‘s Blumhouse has boarded the project.

Michael Johnston stars in the film, written and directed by Barker, as a hopeless romantic who, after breaking the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart, finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.

One of the most anticipated horror films of 2026, Obsession premiered in the midnight section of this year’s Toronto Film Festival before going on to sold-out screenings at Fantastic Fest and winning Sitges’ People’s Choice Award. The film hits U.S. theaters on May 15, 2026.

Obsession‘s cast also includes Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter. James Harris produced through Teashop Productions, alongside Haley Nicole Johnson through Under the Shell, and Christian Mercuri on behalf of Capstone Pictures, which fully financed the project, repped world rights, and co-repped domestic alongside CAA Media Finance.

Blumhouse’s Jason Blum is now an exec producer on the film, which current holds a 97% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Recent releases from Focus Features, as either domestic or international distributor, include Anemone — the psychological drama that brought Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis out of retirement — as well as Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet, and Alex Russell’s Lurker. Upcoming, they’ll release The History of Sound on December 18 and Song Sung Blue on Christmas Day.

Set to release Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 on Friday, the newly merged Blumhouse-Atomic Monster has a busy 2026 ahead with releases including Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, Mortal Kombat 2, Jacob Chase’s Insidious, and Rob Savage’s Other Mommy, in addition to Obsession. Blumhouse has also partnered with Spooky Pictures on Barker’s next project, Anything But Ghosts, where he’ll direct from his script written with Cooper Tomlinson, with the pair starring.
