LA Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank met with franchise legend and future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul for three hours in Atlanta, the meeting bleeding into Wednesday morning.
Forty minutes after it ended, Paul announced on social media that the Clippers were sending him home.
Roughly 12 hours later, Frank said in a news conference that he decided to “part ways” with Paul Sunday night, before the Clippers were blown out by the Miami Heat, abruptly ending Paul’s second tour with a team he led for a prolific six years in the 2010s.
“Chris Paul had a legendary career,” Frank said. “We did not make this move because of our underperformance. … We are not scapegoating Chris Paul.”

The Clippers had playoff aspirations heading into this season, but are floundering at 5-16. Paul has performed poorly in limited minutes and has struggled to find playing time.
Despite the team’s woeful start, Frank said the team is sticking with coach Ty Lue.
“We’re a bad basketball team,” he said. “I put together that roster. I think Ty is one of the best coaches in the NBA. We’re all part of the problem … it starts at the top with me.”
In a statement released earlier Wednesday, Frank said that Paul was no longer with the Clippers. However, LA has not cut CP3, and the organization cannot trade him until Dec. 15.
