Joao Fonseca’s impressive debut Wimbledon campaign has ended in the third round, after suffering defeat to Nicolas Jarry.

After Jarry went two sets up in the match, Fonseca took the third, aiming to go the distance with a comeback, but the Chilean emerged victorious in the fourth set tiebreak to advance to round four.

The Brazilian’s run at the All England Club marks just his third appearance at a Grand Slam, having competed at the Australian Open and Roland Garros already this year.

With two matches won in SW19, Fonseca has matched his best result at a major, following his third-round exit in Paris to Jack Draper.

Now, looking ahead to the US Open build-up, the 18-year-old sent a message to his fans on social media after his exit from Wimbledon.

A day after his loss to Jarry, Fonseca took to Instagram to say: “Another positive Grand Slam, full of learning and experiences that I’ll carry with me through the rest of the season.

“Let’s keep pushing for more. Until next year, Wimbledon,” said the world number 54.

Fonseca came into Wimbledon having played two grass-court tournaments in the form of the Halle Open and the Eastbourne Open.

It was his first tour-level grass swing, in which the young star impressed, showing promising signs for the future on the surface.

After his first run at Wimbledon, Fonseca can leave South West London with plenty of confidence in his game.

He kicked off the tournament with a first-round matchup against home hope Jacob Fearnley, who he earned a comfortable straight sets victory over.

Despite his best efforts against Jarry, it wasn’t to be for Fonseca, who almost forced a fifth set but couldn’t get over the line in the end.
