Alf Bakery — the Chelsea Market bakery known for its baguettes (including laminated variations), buttery croissants, and babka — is closing this year. Its last day at 435 West 15th Street, between Ninth and Tenth avenues, will be on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, December 24.

Owner and baker Amadou Ly announced the shuttering on Instagram stories, writing, “All good things must come to an end.” Over email, he tells Eater he plans on relocating the bakery. “It’s time for a better location, and hopefully, it can generate better food traffic and revenues,” adding that he’d like to offer wholesale eventually, too. Before that happens, he plans on spending some time in his home city of Madrid.

Ly opened Alf in 2023. Before that, he worked at the famed Arcade Bakery (which closed in 2019) in Tribeca, among other places.
