The death of an infant inside a portable restroom in the Mission Bay area on Monday prompted an investigation by homicide detectives.

Officers responded shortly after 1:25 p.m. Monday to the 1600 block of West Mission Bay Drive after receiving reports from an employee who discovered an infant boy inside the restroom unresponsive, according to the San Diego Police Department.

First responders with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and San Diego Lifeguards also responded to the scene to assist with medical treatment, but determined the child was dead at the scene a short time later.

Homicide detectives were notified of the suspicious circumstances involving the child’s death and immediately began an investigation.

The names of the child and the parents were not disclosed.
