A literal grandpa got a call from an NFL team before Cam Newton did.

On Wednesday, the Indianapolis Colts signed quarterback Philip Rivers to their practice squad. With the team facing a handful of injuries at the position heading into Week 15, the now-unretired 44-year-old is back in the league and even has a chance to start on Sunday.

Rivers’ situation is an interesting one to run across the Carolina Panthers‘ all-time leading passer, who hasn’t definitively ruled out a return of his own. So, his co-host Omari “Peggy” Collins did just that on today’s episode of 4th & 1 with Cam Newton.

Here was Newton’s reaction . . .

Newton, despite recently taking up featured roles in front of the camera for ESPN and BET, has yet to officially retire from football.

The 36-year-old Newton hasn’t played since 2021, a season after Rivers’ took his last snap on an NFL field.
