The offseason often brings wild speculation about players and teams. For the San Diego Padres, the player most often brought up in rumor and speculation by fans and media alike is Fernando Tatis Jr. The two-time Platinum Glove winning right fielder is a cornerstone of the San Diego franchise. While some of the Friar Faithful will complain about a lack of production with regard to his power numbers, he is still one of the top players in the game and that was proven not only with his play on defense, but also with his eighth-place finish in the 2025 National League MVP voting. It is understandable that many teams around the league would have interest in Tatis Jr. and it is even more understandable that their respective fanbases would dream on adding a player of his caliber to their roster. Padres President of Baseball Operations and General Manager A.J. Preller all but stated Tatis Jr. is not up for discussion.
