A burglary call ended in a shooting when authorities arrived at an apartment complex in Winnetka early Tuesday to find a man breaking into an apartment.
Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded shortly after 2 a.m. to reports of a hot prowl burglary that was in progress while residents were inside of their home.
When they arrived, officers saw the suspected burglar actively breaking into another apartment unit with a metal pole and going inside, according to preliminary information from the LAPD.
The man did not comply with officers and they then tried using a taser on him. The taser was not effective and the man continued to not comply with officers.
A shooting ensued and the suspected burglar was struck. Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department took him to the hospital in stable condition.
No officers were injured in the incident, but one resident did sustain injuries to his hand as a result of the burglary during the encounter with the man, LAPD said. He was treated and released at the scene.
Saticoy Street between Oso and Mason avenues will remain closed as the investigation continues.
