ASHLAND, Va. (WWBT) – The Downtown Ashland Association is asking the community to give a name to the town’s unofficial mascot, the drunk raccoon.
Ashland’s “Trashed Panda” came in through the ceiling of the local ABC Store on Black Friday weekend for a quick night cap and ended up passed out in the bathroom. An act that got him in the international spotlight.

The Trashed Panda phenomenon has already inspired an outpouring of creativity and generosity. Community-led fundraising efforts—powered by drunk raccoon merchandise have raised over $200,000 for Hanover County Animal Protection & Shelter.

Yet, this raccoon doesn’t even have a name.
“Neighbors have affectionately called him everything from the ABC Bandit to the Rascally Raccoon,” the Downtown Ashland Association said in a statement. “But a legend of this magnitude deserves more than a nickname shouted across social media.”

Submissions are open now, and the winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to the ARC of Hanover Thrift Store, along with the honor of having their chosen name announced as downtown Ashland’s selected name for its unofficial mascot.
