Re “Rockslide risk a concern for La Jolla stair project” (Nov. 6): This Princess Street stairway project was approved by people clearly not familiar with this dangerous, deep part of La Jolla Cove. Its appropriate longtime name is “Devil’s Slide.”
There are frequent cliff landslides here including when sudden falling dirt and rocks bloodied my head while picking up cliffside trash.
It’s not a family-friendly area. There is no beach and higher tide seating is on wet, slippery rocks directly under these unpredictable, crumbling cliffs.
There are no restrooms or trash cans and it is a protected marine reserve without officials making sure it isn’t abused.
“Devil’s Slide” can be safely visited at low tides and doesn’t need a stairway, which could lead to a tragic injury or worse. Please end this unnecessary and misguided project before it breaks ground.
