A 38-year-old man who was fatally shot by Los Angeles Police Department officers in Hollywood was identified Saturday.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office identified him as Juan Guerrero Rojo.

The investigation continues into the fatal shooting of Guerrero Rojo, who was allegedly armed and threatening to harm himself before, according to police, advancing toward them with a knife.

Officers from the Hollywood Division were dispatched at 3:35 p.m. Thursday to an apartment complex in the 1400 block of North Bronson Avenue, near Sunset Boulevard, to reports of a ”possible suicide” suspect, police said.

The responding officers discovered that the man was armed with a knife, prompting officers to use a 40mm less-lethal foam launcher to subdue him, but without effect.

Police said Guerrero Rojo subsequently began to charge at officers, and an “officer-involved shooting” occurred.

Guerrero Rojo was struck by gunfire and taken into custody. Paramedics took him to a hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

No officers or bystanders were injured during the shooting.

Detectives recovered the knife at the scene and booked it as evidence.

The shooting investigation focused on the area of North Bronson Avenue from Sunset Boulevard to Fountain Avenue, police said.
