Varanasi is ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s ambitious project, aimed at breaking records on a global scale. Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu has been chosen as the lead, with internationally recognised actress Priyanka Chopra playing the heroine.
The announcement glimpse created a strong buzz, with fans in awe and eagerly waiting to experience the master storyteller’s vision on the big screen. Meanwhile, Priyanka, who recently appeared on The Kapil Sharma Show S4, confirmed a key detail about Varanasi that had not been officially disclosed earlier.
She revealed that Varanasi is being made on a massive budget of Rs. 1,300 crore, the highest ever for a Tollywood film and also the biggest project of Rajamouli’s career so far. It currently stands as the second-highest budgeted Indian film, while Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana Part 1 is said to be mounted on a budget of over Rs. 2,000 crore.
The team is currently on a short shooting break and will resume production soon. Mollywood star Prithviraj Sukumaran is also part of this globetrotting film, which is being produced by KL Narayana and SS Karthikeya. MM Keeravaani, the Oscar-winning composer, is scoring the music for this film, slated for release in 2027.
