(TNND) — At least 6 were dead and 55 were shot over the Fourth of July weekend in Chicago.

The violence, reported by ABC7, was caused by several mass and drive-by shootings in the city.

There have been 205 homicides and 170 fatal shootings in Chicago this year, according to city data.

The holiday weekend kicked off with a drive-by shooting that killed 14 people and wounded 4. The shooting occurred following an album release party for the rapper Mello Buckzz inside a nearby restaurant.

Chicago’s Superintendent of Police Larry Snelling, said the cause of the shooting can be attributed to particular targets.

“Clearly, there was some target in some way,” Snelling said. “This wasn’t some random shooting.”

Although the shooting was only the start of violence that continued into the holiday weekend, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said he will not allow the incident to define Chicago as a city.

“We cannot allow that incident to define us as a city, and it doesn’t define us as a city,” Johnson said.
