PHOENIX — Light rain blanketed metro Phoenix on Tuesday evening ahead of heavier showers that are expected later Tuesday night.
Rain first appeared in central and western portions of the Phoenix metro area, according to the National Weather Service.
Heavier precipitation is anticipated to make its way across the eastern parts of the Valley within the next couple of hours.

The Phoenix metro area is expected to see even more rainfall overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday, and high temperatures are forecast to drop into the low 70s and high 60s by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
The heaviest rainfall is expected on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
Earlier on Tuesday, Phoenix broke a 50-year-old heat record, as temperatures climbed to 80 degrees.
