The suspect reportedly told police he left the victim alive. The victim was found by police on Monday in the woods in north Fort Worth.

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Police Department has arrested a suspect in the case of a missing person who was later found dead in a shallow grave, officials say.

According to the Fort Worth Police Department, the missing person report was initially received on Dec. 2. Homicide investigators soon took over the investigation, and on Monday, found that missing person dead in a shallow grave in the woods in north Fort Worth in Denton County.

Police say investigation showed the victim had left a party with the suspect on Nov. 30. That suspect, 23-year-old Alexander James Nicholas, gave a statement to detectives including the location he said he had left the victim alive.

During the investigation, police say they found evidence contradicting Nicholas’ statement, which led to his arrest. 

Police say Nicholas and the victim reportedly shared a known acquaintance and that this appears to be an isolated incident.

The investigation is still ongoing. Police say further arrests are possible.

The identity of the victim will be released once the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the official cause and manner of death.
