A recent Orange County arrest linked a man accused of being a serial rapist to several incidents in Jacksonville over 20 years ago, according to News 6 partner WJXT-TV.
Jason Blount, 52, who lived in Orange County, was recently arrested in Orlando on a robbery charge. After his DNA was processed into the booking system, detectives noticed it matched several rape cases in Jacksonville.
A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office detective was working on three unsolved cases between the years 2000 and 2002. JSO said Blount, who would have been in his late 20s at the time of the incidents, had a track record of “ambushing women outside their homes.”
In one case, a woman was jogging. Another case happened when a woman was leaving her apartment and dragged to another location before she was raped, and the last case occurred when Blount forces his way into the victim’s apartment, JSO said.
Blount is charged with three counts of sexual battery. Detectives also identified an elderly woman who is now deceased as an additional victim.
“Our hearts go out to the women Blount brutally victimized. We will work with the State Attorney’s Office to bring him the harshest punishment possible and make sure he doesn’t do this again,” JSO said.
