PHOENIX — A dog who stayed with its owner after they died was rescued in Cochise County over the weekend, authorities said.
The devoted pup is now at the shelter, according to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (CCSO SAR).

CCSO SAR was conducting a recovery operation in a remote area several miles north of the Muleshoe Ranch when they found the dog.
The dog initially ran off but CCSO SAR team was able to catch and save it.
Police said the circumstances regarding how and why the pup and its owner were in that area are currently unknown.
A cause of death for the owner was not provided.
CCSO SAR said this is not the first time rescue teams have saved a dog that stayed with their owner after they died.
“This truly shows the devotion and love a pet has for their person,” CCSO SAR said in a Facebook post on the rescue.
