NEW YORK (WABC) — The MTA has announced its service schedules for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

On New Year’s Eve, the MTA is adding extra subway and commuter rail service — but on New Year’s Day, most MTA agencies will operate on weekend or holiday schedules.

Details for each agency are as follows:

NYC Subway

New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31)
Subways will operate on a regular weekday schedule, with increased service on the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, C, D, G, L, N, Q, and R trains, and the 42 St. Shuttle in the evening into the post-midnight hour. The A train will be running express until 2:30 a.m.

New Year’s Day (Jan.1 )
Subways will operate on a Sunday schedule.

NYC Buses

New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31)
Routes in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan and some bus routes in Queens are operating on a reduced weekday schedule, while other routes in Queens are operating on a regular weekday schedule.

B100, B103, BM1 through BM5, and all BXM routes will operate on a regular weekday schedule.

Buses on Staten Island will operate on a weekday school closed schedule.

Bus routes in and around Midtown are subject to detours around road closures.

New Year’s Day (Jan.1 )
Buses in all five boroughs will operate on a Sunday schedule.

Access-A-Ride
Paratransit will operate full 24/7 service on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. When reserving trips, customers should be aware of potential delays due to holiday traffic and the need for alternate pickup or drop-off locations due to the New Year’s Eve street closures in the Times Square area.

Long Island Rail Road

New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31)
On Wednesday, Dec. 31, there will be a total of 11 additional LIRR trains on the Babylon, Montauk, Ronkonkoma, Port Jefferson and Port Washington branches to Grand Central Madison or Penn Station beginning in the early evening to accommodate riders heading into the city for New Year’s Eve celebrations.

New Year’s Day (Jan.1 )
All LIRR trains will operate on a Sunday schedule. There will be a total of 12 additional trains beginning in the early overnight hours to accommodate riders heading back to Long Island from Penn Station or Grand Central Madison.

Metro-North Railroad

New Year’s Week
On Monday-Tuesday, Dec. 29-30, and Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, Metro-North will operate on a Friday schedule on the three East of Hudson lines, with extra mid-day and mid-afternoon service.

New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31)
Metro-North will operate a special weekday schedule with extra late-evening and post-midnight service on New Year’s Eve and into the morning hours of New Year’s Day.

New Year’s Day (Jan.1 )
Metro-North will operate hourly service on the Hudson and Harlem Lines, with extra trains on the New Haven Line, and regular weekend service on the Wassaic, New Canaan, Danbury and Waterbury branches.

Bridges and Tunnels

New Year’s Eve Week
Temporary daytime road closures at all MTA Bridges and Tunnels will end at 1:00pm Wednesday, Dec. 31 through Friday, Jan. 2, 2026. On Friday, Jan. 2, roadwork may resume and lane closures may be implemented in the off-peak direction during the morning rush hour period as traffic volumes and regional conditions permit.

MTA app – Customers who use the comprehensive MTA app will see real-time train, bus and rail arrival times, and can chat with the customer care team all in one place. The app is available in the Apple Store and in Google Play.

TrainTime app – The MTA’s TrainTime app is the essential companion to navigating the commuter rail system. Customers can plan their trip, purchase tickets, check train status, and chat with customer service, all in one app. The app is available in the Apple Store and in Google Play.

Email & Text Alerts – Customers can sign up for email and SMS alerts tailored to their specific commutes and travel times. They can also sign up for MTA newsletters like The Weekender, a weekly newsletter that covers major weekend planned service changes. Customers can sign up here.

511 – Customers who prefer to contact the MTA by telephone, information is available by dialing 511. Those who are deaf or hard of hearing can use their preferred service provider or the free 711 relay to reach the MTA at 511.
