Among the 250 pieces showcased are special items from the Palace of Versailles that had never been on display outside France. The exhibition blended historical and contemporary fashion while exploring the French queen’s legacy and how she has remained a lasting source of inspiration.

The Mellon Blue, a modified pear brilliant-cut, 9.51-carat, fancy-vivid-blue, VVS1-clarity diamond, fetched CHF 20.5 million ($25.6 million) at the November 11 Magnificent Jewels sale at Christie’s in Geneva — some 20% less than the last time the diamond went under the hammer in 2014. The jewel previously belonged to American horticulturalist, philanthropist, and art collector Rachel Lambert Mellon, better known as Bunny Mellon, who died in 2014.

In October Sotheby’s announced that the Glowing Rose, a cushion brilliant-cut, 10.08-carat, fancy-vivid-pink diamond ring, would star at the November 12 High Jewelry sale. The ring was estimated to achieve around $20 million.

A JAR ring featuring a kite-shaped, 10.38-carat, fancy-purple-pink stone, thought to have belonged to Marie Antoinette, led the June 17 Magnificent Jewels sale at Christie’s in New York, where it doubled its estimate and brought in $14 million. 

Sotheby’s Hong Kong Sale Rakes In $28.7M

The cushion-shaped, 12.56-carat, royal-blue Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring took the center stage at the September 19 High Jewelry sale at Sotheby’s in Hong Kong, selling for HKD 18.7 million ($2.4 million), within its estimates. In total, the sale garnered HKD 223.8 million ($28.7 million). The lots included colored diamonds and gemstones, and pieces from famous design houses such as Bulgari, Cartier, Graff and de Grisogono.

Israel Finance Minister Wants Country to Be Free-Trade Zone for Diamonds

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stated in September that he would include a proposition in the country’s 2026 budget to make the country a free-trade zone for diamonds. He announced the move, which Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE) president Nissim Zuaretz spearheaded, during a visit to the bourse, it revealed on its Instagram page.

Kira Jewels Nearly Doubles Synthetics Production Capacity

Kira Jewels, the India-based company that also owns natural-diamond provider Kiran Gems, expanded its lab-grown production capacity to 250,000 carats of polished per month. The company upped the number of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) reactors in its facility to 4,000 from its previous 2,600. Kira based its decision to nearly double its output on the acceleration of consumer demand for synthetics.

Four natural and synthetic diamonds received at the Dubai lab of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) for updated services turned out to be imposters bearing fake inscriptions. Upon first examination of the stones, the lab noticed inconsistent font styles and placement of the GIA inscriptions, proving they were not authentic, according to an article in the Fall issue of Gems & Gemology, the institute’s quarterly journal.

US Customs Seizes over $25M in Counterfeit Jewelry

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized five shipments carrying nearly 2,200 pieces of counterfeit jewelry valued at over $25 million. The first package, caught in Louisville, Kentucky, on June 19, arrived from China and contained 318 bracelets bearing fake Cartier trademarks. The second delivery from Hong Kong included 490 necklaces, 205 pairs of earrings and 80 rings bearing forged Van Cleef & Arpels trademarks.  A day later, authorities nabbed another three packages from China that contained a total of 800 fake Cartier bracelets.

Gap Taps Ex-Tiffany Artistic Director to Lead Push into Jewelry
