If you have time off around the holidays, might as well use it to see live music. And there’s plenty going on in Saytown this week.
Let’s check it out.
Tuesday, Dec. 30
Drab Majesty, Urban Heat, Holy Wire, Night Ritualz
The mystery of Drab Majesty is buried behind the identity of the androgynous Deb DeMure, an alter ego of LA musician Andrew Clinco. The act channels ’80s-era synthwave with drum machines and reverb-drenched guitars through a lo-fi filter. The approach stands in stark comparison to Clinco’s other work with the post-rock band Marriages. $40.67, 8 p.m., Paper Tiger, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., papertigersatx.com. — Danny Cervantes
Wednesday, Dec. 31
The Texases
What better way to bring in 2025 than by hootin’ and hollerin’ with classic-country cover act the Texases deep in the heart of the Pearl. The band is known for its energetic takes on classic material, which sounds like an unforgettable way to ring in the New Year. $19.92-$76.21, 8 p.m., Stable Hall, 307 Pearl Parkway, stablehall.com. — DC
Friday, Jan. 2
Nathan Felix, Hamell on Trial, The Whale, Garrett T. Capps
An excellent and varied local lineup makes this show a must. Nathan Felix has made a name for himself with ambitious multi-media operas, which he’s staged across the globe, but he’s recently tried his hand at Americana to similarly stellar results. Hamell on Trial, meanwhile, plays anti-folk – punk attitude on an acoustic guitar, basically. The Whale perform adventurous jazz, while Garrett T. Capps is one of SA’s primary musical ambassadors. $10, 9 p.m., Lonesome Rose, 2114 N. St. Mary’s St., (210) 455-0233, thelonesomerosesa.com.— Bill Baird
Dirty River Brass Band
San Antonio’s own Dirty River Brass Band will give audiences a taste of New Orleans right here in River City. Originally formed at Texas Lutheran University, the band was inspired by local legend Jim Cullum, who devoted his life to trad jazz. Expect these folks to showcase a pure, earnest take on true American music. $49.84-$70.44, 7:30 & 9 p.m., Jazz, TX, 312 Pearl Parkway, (210) 332-9386, jazztx.com. — DC
