Philadelphia knows how to celebrate its own—and this January, Historic Philadelphia is honoring its most famous founding father, Benjamin Franklin.

Birthday ‘Bengo’

In 2026, there will be two opportunities to celebrate Franklin’s 320th birthday, with the first taking place at Franklin Square the weekend of Jan. 10 and 11. On those dates, locals can head to the city’s historic venue to partake in Boozy Ben’s Birthday “Bengo”, which will take place inside the heated Frosty’s Fireside Lounge. Cocktails will be available for purchase, and those who want to participate in the game can pay $5 for a card. Bengo will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. both nights; no reservations required.

Proceeds from “Bengo” benefit the management and operation of Franklin Square, a release notes. Winter in Franklin Square always features the Electrical Spectacle Light Show presented by PECO. The show (which runs Jan. 8 through Feb. 28) dons hundreds of thousands of twinkling lights choreographed to winter music throughout the Square every night.

Otherwise, while at the Franklin Square this frosty season, guests can also cozy up around fire pits with hot beverages (including spiked options for adults), or check out activities like Street Curling and Chilly Philly Mini Golf. With the former, guests can book a 30-minute session for up to 8 players at each of the two street rinks for $40. And with the latter, locals can play a mini-golf experience decked out with lights, seasonal music, and “larger-than-life wintertime friends” throughout the course.

Tippler’s Tour

Later in the month, locals can also join in on Franklin’s Limited Edition Tippler’s Tour. Produced in partnership with the Carpenters’ Company, the event is returning for three days this month (Jan. 16, 17 and 18) at Carpenter’s Hall, and will feature savory snacks and seasonal beverages with a side of history. The three evenings (5:30 to 6:30 p.m.) offer a perfect way to “delight in lighthearted toasts and spirited songs, delivered by the famous inventor and statesman himself.” Tickets ($40) are available online.
