The family stranded since Christmas Eve is working on getting emergency passports.

HOUSTON —  A Canadian family spent their holiday weekend trying to get emergency passports after thieves broke into their car Christmas Eve, stealing nearly all of their belongings.  New video shows a thief breaking into the car, and taking luggage and other items out of the vehicle, which was parked close to a restaurant the family was eating at just west of downtown Houston.

The Houston Police Department is investigating the case, although no arrests have been made yet.

Mingchu Hsieh says they are at the Consulate General of Canada in Dallas, working to get temporary passports, which she says may take several days to process. The family had planned to return to Canada January 2nd, but Hsieh says they will likely miss their flight because they probably won’t get their passports in time.

As of now, the family has yet to recover any of their stolen items.

Hsieh still hopes for a resolution, stating, “We just want to go home.”
