An attempt by Dallas police to arrest a wanted felon Monday afternoon led to a standoff in a downtown parking garage that lasted for hours and ended in a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound by the suspect, according to a police statement.

No other injuries were reported, and no officers were hurt during the incident, officials said.

At about 3:45 p.m., officers responded to an assist call in the 1600 block of Commerce Street and near the downtown flagship Neiman-Marcus department store, police said.

Police set up a perimeter around the area and asked the public to avoid the surrounding streets while they worked to get the man to surrender.
