Investigators found that before the shooting, the male victim and a female suspect, who were previously involved in a dating relationship, were engaged in a verbal and physical altercation on the walking bridge, the release states.

Before the shooting, the female was allegedly assaulted and asked witnesses to call 911, police said.

The suspect was detained by police and taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries she sustained during the altercation, officials said.
