NEW JERSEY (WABC) — With the new year comes notable changes when it comes to mass transit in and around New York City.

Drivers will see another 3% year-over-year increase on January 1 for tolls, due to a change in policy from the Murphy administration that includes the NJ turnpike, Garden State Parkway and Atlantic City Expressway.

For Delaware River bridge crossings, EZ-pass users will pay $2 up from $1.50 and those without EZ-pass will pay an increase from $3 to $5. Port Authority crossings into New York will increase by $.25.

Separately, the state’s gas tax rate increases by 4.2 cents per gallon beginning January 1 to support the State’s Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) program, bringing the state’s per-gallon levy to 49.1 cents for gasoline and 56.1 cents for diesel fuel.

Initially, the gas tax was supposed to go up by around 2 cents. It previously jumped by 2.6 cents in 2025. But because actual consumption has trended below last fiscal year’s levels, the state gas tax will make up for the difference, according to a press release.

Prior to the latest planned increase, New Jersey was already among the top 10 highest in state gasoline taxes. The national average is around 33 cents.

The increase averages out to about $27 more per year per driver, for a total cost of $320 just for the state gas tax alone, according to the latest figures available from 2022.

Those in New Jersey will also see bigger paychecks as the minimum wage is now at $15.92. Workers who receive tips will see a $6.05 minimum wage, which is adjusted based on the amount they earn in tips.

New Jersey now has its own new department of veteran affairs to make sure veterans in the state get the care they need in the most efficient way, including mental, physical health care, housing and other services.
