PHOENIX — A woman riding an electric scooter is in the hospital after she was struck by a driver who was possibly impaired in west Phoenix early Thursday morning, authorities said.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to the area of 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road for reports of a collision involving a pedestrian around 1:16 a.m.
When police arrived on scene, they found an adult female who they said had been riding an electric scooter when she was hit.
She was taken to a nearby hospital by the Phoenix Fire Department with life-threatening injuries.
Police said that the vehicle and its driver were located nearby by Glendale police. They detained the driver and Phoenix officers later took custody of him.
The man was then transported to a nearby precinct and processed for possible impairment.
The investigation into the west Phoenix collision is ongoing.
