Bexar County Judge Benjamin Robertson of the 226th District Court sentenced Terry Johnson to 30 years in prison Monday for the murder of 18-year-old Demarion Leal Smith.
“We are grateful that justice has been served in this case,” said Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales. “We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Demarion’s family and hope this verdict can bring some measure of closure.”
The case dates back to April 5, 2024, when officers discovered Smith’s body in a parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered gunshot wounds to his back and chest.
Several months later, Johnson admitted to authorities that he had fired the shots, claiming he acted in self-defense. That claim was refuted by video evidence collected by law enforcement.
