SoftBank Corp. announced it partnered with Nokia to launch an outdoor trial using the 7GHz band, a centimeter-wave frequency under consideration for 6G, marking a first for a telecommunications carrier in Japan*. In June 2025, SoftBank installed three 7GHz-compatible base stations in central Tokyo. The trial will use Massive MIMO technology to evaluate how 6G coverage comparable to 5G can be deployed in urban areas.
