Out past the edges of Fort Worth, where prairie grasses roll toward the horizon, Discovery Land Company is building a golf community like no other. The first chapter of that vision has arrived with the opening of the Pinkerton 9 — a 9-hole par-3 course designed by Tom Fazio. It’s a compact course, but one that promises a full dose of fun and challenge.

Set on 1,100 acres of rolling farmland with sweeping views of the Fort Worth skyline, the par-3 is just the beginning, according to a release. Maverick Golf & Ranch Club will eventually offer three Fazio-designed layouts: the newly opened 9-hole course, an 18-hole championship course slated for fall 2026, and a 12-hole layout to follow.

Michael Meldman, founder and chairman of Discovery Land Company, frames the course as the ideal entry point to the club. “The par-3 is the perfect opening act for Maverick. It embodies our core philosophy of creating world-class golf experiences that are fun and accessible for the entire family,” he says. “It’s the ultimate place for a parent and child to spend an hour, or for friends to settle a friendly wager before dinner. This community is built on the spirit of Fort Worth, and its design ensures golf is a relaxed, joyful part of the Discovery lifestyle.”

The Pinkerton 9 is designed to be a shot-maker’s paradise, leveraging natural landscape features to create holes that challenge experienced golfers while welcoming beginners. Beyond the course itself, Maverick will offer a full slate of practice facilities, including a range house, teaching area, and short-game space — all designed to help members of every skill level sharpen their game.

But golf is just the beginning. The community’s amenities are extensive: a state-of-the-art clubhouse, spa, fitness center, kids’ adventure center, family water park, fieldhouse, racquets complex, and outdoor sports fields. Hiking, biking, and fishing are all on the menu, and an Outdoor Pursuits program will curate off-site adventures and family events. Culinary experiences will be supported by an on-site organic farm, highlighting Discovery Land Company’s emphasis on sustainable living and a connection to the land.

For the team at Maverick, the Pinkerton 9 is both a warm-up and a statement. As Fazio explains, “Designing a 9-hole par-3 course allows for pure creativity and a focus on the most enjoyable aspects of the game — it’s a shot-maker’s paradise without the time commitment of a full round. At Maverick, we used the natural changes in landscape to create highly playable holes that will challenge the accomplished golfer while still welcoming the beginner. It truly sets the stage for the championship course to come.”
