HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A woman is dead after being shot by an unidentified man on a METRO bus on Wednesday in west Houston, METRO has confirmed.

Preliminary information released by the agency suggests that the woman, who police described as an innocent bystander, was shot by a man shortly after they boarded the bus at around 2:32 p.m. near Walnut Bend at Richmond Avenue.

The victim immediately got off the bus and was taken to the hospital with severe injuries, where she later died, according to officials.

The bus driver quickly stopped the bus and safely offloaded the rest of the passengers, who are said to have no reported injuries.

Meanwhile, officials said the suspect ran into an apartment complex.

Police said they are now looking for a suspect between the ages of 17 and 20 years old, who’s wearing a black hoodie, light-colored gray shorts, and slides.

METRO advises everyone to avoid the area while Houston and METRO police investigate.

Initially, officials said there were two suspects, but now they say there only appears to be one suspect, whom they are looking for right now.
