AUSTIN — Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Friday a legal victory against the City of San Antonio, saying the city has ended a program that used taxpayer dollars to help fund out-of-state abortion travel.

Paxton’s office said San Antonio had allocated public funds to cover travel and related expenses for women seeking abortions outside Texas. The attorney general argued the program violated state law and took legal action to stop it.

Texas respects the sanctity of unborn life, and I will always do everything in my power to prevent radicals from manipulating the system to murder innocent babies,” Paxton said in a statement. “It is illegal for cities to fund abortion tourism with taxpayer funds.

According to Paxton’s office, the city’s decision follows both the attorney general’s legal challenge and the passage of Senate Bill 33, which bans the use of taxpayer money for abortion-related activities, including assistance for travel.

San Antonio previously created a $100,000 Reproductive Justice Fund that included coverage for out-of-state abortion travel. Paxton said the city has now formally ended the program.
