Calgary police say the suspicious death of a woman in her 80s in the southwest community of Canyon Meadows on Thursday is now being investigated as a homicide.

Police said the call came in around 10:50 a.m. to a home in the 13000 block of Canterbury Gardens southwest.

When officers arrived, they discovered the body of the woman.

Investigators were still at the scene Friday morning, looking for video from CCTV cameras and hoping to speak to any witnesses.

Following the results of an autopsy, which police said confirmed the death to be a homicide, investigators announced another woman had been taken into custody.

However, because the killing is believed to be domestic in nature, police said no names would be released in order to protect the family.
