If your weekend plans involve crisscrossing NYC, this might be the moment to stay local, grab a coffee, and breathe. The MTA has announced a full slate of service changes due to ongoing repair work, rerouting nearly every subway line in one way or another.
The good news? A few brave trains are staying the course.
The rest? Expect reroutes, skipped stops, and outright suspensions.
Let’s break it down.
These are the only lines with no major service changes this weekend:
Subway: F, M, Q, 1, and 6
Shuttles: Franklin Ave & Rockaway Park
If your travels rely on those lines—you’re golden. For everyone else, here’s what you need to know.

Why All the Construction?
The MTA is using the weekend to perform critical upgrades—replacing nearly 40-year-old track switches and installing the CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) system to improve train frequency and cut back on mid-week meltdowns.
So yes, it’s messy now—but it’s meant to prevent worse later.
Always check the MTA app or website before you head out. Even planned work can change last-minute depending on how the upgrades are going.
