Prosecutors Say the Suspect Advertised Child-Care Services Online and May Have Additional Victims
Prosecutors have charged a North Hollywood man who promoted himself online as a babysitter and children’s snowboard instructor with sexually abusing a child under his care, and authorities say they believe additional victims may exist.
Vincent Everette Smith Jr., 28, is charged in Los Angeles County Superior Court with two felony counts of committing lewd acts on a child under the age of 14, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The alleged abuse occurred between April 2021 and February 2022, and Smith was arrested by the Torrance Police Department.
Court records state that Smith is accused of grooming the child before the offenses. Prosecutors further allege that the case involves substantial sexual conduct and acts of tying or binding.
Smith has been held in custody without bail since his initial court appearance on December 11, 2025, at the request of prosecutors. His arraignment is scheduled for January 12 in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center in downtown Los Angeles.
If convicted as charged, Smith faces a potential sentence of 50 years to life in state prison and would be required to register as a sex offender for life.
The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Leslie Hinshaw of the District Attorney’s Sex Crimes Division and remains under investigation by the Torrance Police Department.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have had contact with Smith or who believes they may be a victim to come forward. Information can be provided to Torrance Police Detective Michelle Lowery of the Sex Crimes Division at 310-618-5570.
