A man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection to a suspicious death at a home in the Gordon Head neighbourhood of Saanich earlier this week.
On Saturday, the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unite (VIIMCU) issued a statement in the ongoing investigation of the death that occurred inside a home in the 1600-block of Blair Avenue.
A suspect was taken into custody on Monday and was released without charge on Tuesday, as it was early in the investigation.
Then on Thursday, Muhammed Ali Basar was arrested.
At 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Muhammed Ali Basar appeared in court in Victoria for a bail hearing, where he was denied bail, according to B.C. court records.
Ali Basar faces a murder charge under the Canadian Criminal Code 235 (1).
His hearing took place in front of Judicial Justice Patrick Angly.
Ali Basar’s next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 21.
He remains in custody. Nothing has been proven in court.
“With the assistance of Victoria and Saanich Police Departments, Muhammed Basar was arrested and charged. We appreciate the benefits of being part of the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) where communication and cooperation between agencies optimizes the success of our major crime investigations,” states RCMP Superintendent Sanjaya Wijayakoon.
