HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A dog was rescued from a burning house in west Houston overnight, but the person who lives there is still unaccounted for, according to the Houston Fire Department.

On Thursday, just after midnight, firefighters said they arrived to find flames burning through the roof at a home along Alief Clodine Road.

HFD said crews were able to rescue a dog from the home. The pup was treated with oxygen and water, the department said.

One witness told ABC13 that he called 911, concerned about how big the fire was getting.

“I was just driving, and then I was going home, and then I saw the fire light up. It was too much. The smoke was too much. I smelled it in my car. People were just passing, no one was doing nothing,” witness Yavu Kaindu said.

Firefighters said that as of Thursday morning, the homeowner was still unaccounted for.

Officials did not reveal if the dog belonged to the owner of the house.
